Why you need the GlycoMark test

There are several tests available to physicians who treat diabetes. Some, such as the OGTT and insulin resistance tests, are used to diagnose disease. Others, such as hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and fructosamine (FA), are used to monitor patient attempts to control their disease through life style changes, including diet or exercise. And still others are used to determine whether drugs targeting diabetes are actually working.

GlycoMark® is a new, accurate test with multiple uses in diabetes. It monitors short-term glycemia and post-meal hyperglycemia over a one to two week moving time frame, and is an effective test to determine that anti-hyperglycemic drugs actually work. Studies are currently underway to determine if GlycoMark can predict diabetes.

GlycoMark is an effective way to monitor post-meal episodes of high and frequent hyperglycemia. Research has shown this to be important because significant reductions of the risks of complications of diabetes -- cardiovascular disease, blindness and nerve damage, among others – are achieved when you lower your HBA1c value below 6.5%.

Unfortunately, HbA1c is limited because it doesn’t actually measure only hyperglycemia. In fact, it averages both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia over a very long time (2 - 3 months). You may have a near normal HbA1c and not actually be controlling your hyperglycemia.

It is very difficult to control hyperglycemia between 8.5 and 6.5%; only GlycoMark can help you do so effectively and safely.

GlycoMark is used by your physician to help you adjust your diet and accurately determine if your antihyperglycemia therapy is effective.
